All this talk of this not being music is really irrelevant in the end, isn't it? I am a huge Black Dice fan myself. I am not going to slag on people's music choices here but I will question why the hell Phish is being brought up. Great they are really talented musicians. Congrats. I could care less. Personally Phish bores me to death but again musical tastes are personal, completely subjective. I happen to enjoy what Black Dice does regardless of whether or not one can classify it as music.

But I'm not a Clapton fan much so it doesn't matter, I don't mind if you need to minimize him like you do phish. So let me get this straight...Only black men can play blues. CheckIf a band decides to work improvisation into their music and tour constantly then they will undoubtedly sound exactly like the Grateful Dead. CheckAnd only Zappa can be the head of one of the most bad ass rock & roll bands of all time. Check. Thanks for the music lesson, cartoon. Very enlightening.

"phish sound exactly like the grateful dead"You obviously have no real perspective on the matter with a comment like that. Not one aspect of phish's music mirrors the dead's music other than extended improvisations.Yes Clapton was influenced by early blues. Point? Clapton isn't a legend because he mimics black men. Clapton is a legend because he's stood the test of time. Validity. I love how people rip apart the "type" of blues he plays while ignoring the timeless SONG composure.

phish sound exactly like the grateful dead, eric clapton plays riffs that black men had been playing for decades before, and rolling stone lives in the past while praising bands that they dissed decades earlier (i don't even know how that's possible). frank zappa had a big bowl of "trey anastasi-O's" for breakfast every day while he was alive.

And is there anyone that doesn't like phish's music that doesn't also have a problem with their name? Just for the record while I'm bring phish up I don't think there's many phish fans who think of "fishies" when they think of PHISH. It somehow stemmed from Trey meeting the drummer Jon Fishman in college. "Phish" turns into something else after you dive into their music and it won't happen at first glance. Just thought I'd throw that in. lol
TheFolderMoma (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
and who are you to know what music I'm into? Just because I like phish? I don't only listen to phish and why you'd assume that I "wouldn't know what to do with" your little list there is amusing. How many of them are in my library? Can you guess? I'll stop pissing on Black Dice, I've said what I wanted to say.

Some1 paves the way for every1. They pay their respects to influences all the time. Point was people will tag THIS innovative while minimizing phish as if they are "noodling" aimlessly. I brought up Clapton's because of validity. Ask anyone valid in the music world and they'll pay respect to phish. It's the run of the mill comments from people that simply don't like the style...the one liners without putting any thought into how much craft goes into their music that's tough to swallow.
