MIRRORS. It's a simple illusion actually. There's mirrors in the wide compartment to complete the illusion that it's empty. I saw this illusion revealed on Greatest Magic Revealed.

it explains it rather easily; note how when you can see the box from a high altitude the very back in which her head travels does not match the zebra striped 'back' of the box. This is because the box is deeper than it appears, they get someone else to dangle their hands out while she travels along the box seemingly beheaded. It's just a simple perception trick, sorry to hurt the feelings of those claiming to be the 'worlds greatest'
